Sport Sock Varieties

Friday, March 5, 2010 by Amazing Socks WebTeam
At Amazing Socks, you will not only find a wide variety of different running socks but you will also find sport socks with extra layers of protection and comfort.

Wigwam socks
and Drymax make running socks of different lengths and socks that have additional features. The running socks come in low, crew, and no show styles that will not peek out of a running shoe. The running socks are also available in various thicknesses for people who may prefer the ultra light and thin styles of running socks. Drymax even makes a sock that is designed especially for keeping the feet dry when running during the hot weather.

WrightSock makes double layer socks that are ideal for athetlic activities and especially for athetlic activities in the warm weather. The double layer socks have a system of two layers that pulls moisture away from the feet up to the top layer so any moisture is evaporated quickly.

These socks are excellent for sports and athletic activities that are done in the warm weather because the hot weather can make the feet sweat even more. Not everyone has tough enough skin to withstand running in sneakers without getting a blister. For those who have fragile and delicate skin there are double layer socks that protect against blisters as well.

Maximize Your Run With a Good Running Sock

Thursday, March 4, 2010 by Amazing Socks WebTeam
As a runner, I know how it feels to have good running socks and bad running socks.

If your foot is padded with good running socks, you do not really notice your sock - which is great.

If you have to fall back on your bad running socks or worse, just basic socks in general, you will notice them but not in an enjoyable way as they could easily chaffe, slide down your ankle, not hold moisture well, etc.
  • Wigwam Ultimax Running Mini Crew SockSupport: There are a few things to look for in a running sock, the most important being support. Make sure that your sock has good support such as an elasticized arch and ankle panel; this helps to reduce foot fatigue. A great choice for this is a pair of Wigwam Socks. A good one to try is the Wigwam Ultimax Running Mini Crew Sock.
  • Moisture: Also important when it comes to a sock is the amount of moisture allowed. Nobody wants to run in a wet sock as that leads to blisters. Some of the best socks for sweaty feet are Drymax socks. As stated by their namesake, they are armed with their patented Blister Guard system that deters sweating. For really hot and sweaty feet try their Drymax V3 Hot Weather Running Mini Crew.
  • Weight: Finally, make sure you get a lightweight pair of socks, as bunches of cotton in your shoe is no fun. SmartWool socks have a lightweight running sock that is perfect for those longer trails.

Most importantly, be careful when choosing your socks because we all know that a bad sock can cut down on your running enjoyment tremendously. For these socks and more visit the Amazing Socks website.

Diabetic Socks

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 by Amazing Socks WebTeam
For diabetic patients, normal athletic or dress socks are often no longer appropriate. Regular socks are often too constricting at the top where the elastic usually holds the sock up. Diabetic people have circulation trouble, especially in extremities like the feet, and tight elastic bands can exacerbate the problem. Many regular socks also do a poor job of wicking moisture away from the foot. Excessive moisture resting on the skin of a diabetic's foot can cause foot ulcers and wounds that can be very difficult to heal.

American Essentials Women's American Essentials Cotton No-Elastic Top SockDiabetic socks like the American Essentials Women's American Essentials Cotton No-Elastic Top Sock are designed to offer support to the foot by controlling the amount of moisture, which can cause foot ulcers.

The Wigwam Therapeutic socks
are specially designed to keep the foot dry and healthy. Pressure causing details, such as tight elastic tops, are also eliminated. Pressure from seams or lumps in the knit can cause pain and injuries to the feet. Some diabetic socks also offer compression, which can aid circulation issues in the feet and help patients treat foot wounds and ulcers.

The Travel Sox Compression Socks
offer compression to keep down foot swelling, while looking just like a regular black dress sock

Diabetic socks used to be very plain, but now sock makers are offering them in a wide variety of styles and colors. Cotton is the most common material for these socks, but other materials are also available. Diabetic patients can now easily find socks that look the same as any normal pair of socks. It's also easy to find socks that match any outfit, including dress socks.

Keeping Warm with Morgan Thermal Underwear

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 by Amazing Socks WebTeam
Morgan Thermal UnderwearThe bitter cold of winter stops many people from enjoying the outdoors or even feeling comfortable when they leave their homes, especially in the northern states. Piling on heavy outerwear is one way to warm up in winter, but often a simple extra layer of underwear that can provide a lot of extra warmth is overlooked.

Thermal underwear
, like the line from Morgan Thermals, is a great way to add layers and beat the cold. Thermal underwear are shirts and pants made out of ribbed or waffled knit material.

The texture of the knit helps hold in heat, instead of letting it escape your body. Thermal underwear works especially well because:
  • it is worn under heavier layers, and keeps body heat trapped close to the skin.
  • It's less bulky than another outer layer
  • doesn't restrict movement.

Thermals are made out of a variety of natural and synthetic materials, including cotton, wool, and polypropylene.

Many people assume that natural fibers are better, but it depends on the intended use. Cotton and wool are great at insulation, but any sweat or moisture that occurs soaks into the fabric and can't evaporate. This can cause chafing or heat rash, and can actually make you colder.

Synthetic materials are often designed to wick moisture off of the skin, allowing it to evaporate. Athletes and those doing heavy physical work in the cold may want to use thermal underwear designed to wick sweat away instead of a cotton pair that holds the moisture in.

Wigwam Socks and Thermal Underwear keeping you warm this winter

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 by Amazing Socks WebTeam
The cold weather presents a few problems including chilly feet and cold bodies. It is important to keep those feet warm and to wear extra layers during the winter to keep the cold at bay and your body warm. At Amazing Socks you will find the best socks for the winter called wigwam socks and a variety of thermal underwear for both men and women.

Wigwam Cross Trainer Sock

Thermal underwear like thermal leggings and thermal long sleeved tops are the best option for both warmth and comfort in the cool weather. Thermal underwear is breathable so you can stay warm during the cold weather without getting sweaty and the Icebreaker brand is thin and stretchy for flexibility and a good fit without the bulk.

Icebreaker Women's BodyFit 200 Lightweight Leggings

There are different styles of wigwam socks and many of them are ideal for the cold weather. There are many different styles of wigwam socks available on the website including:
  • snowboard
  • outdoor
  • hiking
  • skiing socks.
Stay warm on the slopes with the wigwam ski and snowboard socks that are made of materials that keep the feet warm and dry and are of an appropriate thickness to fit comfortably inside ski and snowboarding boots. To prevent a chill on outdoor expeditions there are wigwam socks that are made of thick and soft materials to wear underneath hiking boots in both mid calf length and longer styles.

Diabetic Dilemma

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 by Lillian Pagan

Dear Sally,Diabetic Thermal Crew

I'm going to try and make this as short and sweet as possible. Just last month I was told I have diabetes. On top of being diabetic I've gained a considerable amount of weight and have become easily bothered by the tight elastic band in my socks. My calves seem to get in the way with almost every pair of socks I put on. I hate feeling like my leg is being choked by the elastic top that I now cut off the sock. Before you know it my sock has unraveled in the wash because I had to cut out the elastic holding it together. Can you recommend some good diabetic socks that aren't so darn tight and constricting?

Signed,

Dang My Diabetes

Dear Dang My Diabetes,

I can go on and on about several great diabetic socks for you but, I will try and list one popular style for each area (i.e athletic, casual, dress). As a expert sock adviser, I will definitely have to recommend theDiabetic Sport Crew by Wigwam Socks. This athletic styled wonder is perfectly padded and ideal for anyone looking to get active! If you're looking for a more casual approach then, I would recommend the Diabetic Walker also by Wigwam Socks. This casual sock is thin yet, comfy and wonderful at wicking away moisture. For a dress sock I would go with this same style, It has many uses. Let me not forget some great cooler weather socks to keep you warm. There is the Wigwam Diabetic Thermal Crew, super thick and full of thermal warmth and protection. As well there is a sock by World's Softest Sock called the Sensitive Feet Extra Wide Crew. This sock stands up to its name with its soft plush texture and non-restricting stretchy top. I hope I was able to narrow down your search for non-binding socks. All of these are ideal options for any diabetic or person needing a looser knit sock.

Runners Nightmare

Wednesday, August 5, 2009 by Lillian Pagan

Dear Sally,

I am a runner...classic opening line I know, It's true though! I live for smooth pavement and  the warm sun. I live in California and run with a group called The Rapid Runners. We get together every Tuesday night and Saturday and Sunday mornings for our 3hr runs. Lately I've been going through alot of my typical running socks I find at the local store. I can go on a run and within an hour  or less already feel a blister on the back of my heel or a hole in the toe area. It seems that each time I buy a new bag of socks they last only a few months if that. My feet are killing me by the end of each run and are covered with blisters and sores. Can you recommend anything for this runners nightmare?

Signed,

Reluctant Rapid Runner

Dear Reluctant Rapid Runner,

I feel your pain, but you came to the right place for running socks. I can definitely help you find socks that will cushion and protect your every step.Drymax makes a great running sock that will definitely offer padding and keep your feet cool and blister free. Let me be sure to mention Wrightsock double layer socks. They have several styles in their walking socks or running socks sections that would suit your needs. Pick according to weight and cushioning so you can control the fit of the sock. Key words like "coolmesh" or "ultra light" are generally made with little or no padding so that's something to look out for when sock shopping. Ideal way to go in my opinion is a sock that's made from a polyester material to keep your feet cool and dry but, also a double layer sock that gives optimal blister protection. Perhaps the Wrightsock Anti -Blister Double Layer DLX Running Sock? It has the best of both worlds. Good Luck!

Dear Sally,
smartwool PH-D outdoor medium crew
My girlfriend and I love all outdoor activities. This fall we are planning a beautiful hiking trip to Colorado at Palmer Park. Now this hiking trail has many difficulty levels so we've decided to go all out and do the full 12 mile hike. Figuring that we'll take the hardest trails first so we can pass the easier trails with no fuss. lol All of our trekking will be done on foot and I'm having trouble finding socks that will protect our feet, cushion them and keep them cool. Do you have any recommendations for good hiking/walking socks or maybe some good merino wool socks to keep us comfortable??

Signed,

Lost On a Sock Trail

Dear Lost On a Sock Trail,Thorlo Level 2 light hiking with coolmax

With so many socks to choose from I can definitely see how hard it may be to narrow it down to the perfect ones. As always ladies first so with that said I would recommend for your girlfriend the Bridgedale Endurance Trekker crew or the Smartwool PH-D Outdoor Medium crew. Both socks would Protect, Pad and Purge Perspiration! The Four P's! Now for you, I would recommend a great merino wool sock called the Trailmaster Sock. This sock is made byFox River Socks. As well Thorlo socks make a sturdy Level 2 Light Hiking Sock with Coolmax. Perfect for keeping you dry and cushioning your every step. With this information you should have no issues finding the ideal sock for your girlfriend and yourself. Happy Hiking!!

Camping Woes

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 by Lillian Pagan
Summer brings us many different outdoor activities. For my family in particular it brings the dreaded "Campingggg TRIPPPP"! Not only am I a big sissy when it comes to bugs and slimy crawly things but, I never seem prepared and always seem to forget something. Imagine packing up for a 3 day trip for 4 people, and forgetting tooth brushes, socks and deodorant?!?! Yep, that was me alright! I waited by the site praying that one of those mini vans packed with miscellaneous necessities would stop by our spot and some how have everything I was missing. So yes they had socks, some flimsy 3pk of white OTC tube socks in a dusty old bag. Seemed like a leftover from 1941..And of course they only have 1 package left why would they have more?!?! Ugh...Wear, Wash, Rinse, Dry and Reuse. That was my daily routine at the wash basin for my lovely camping trip! Come night fall I was freezing my tootsies off!! Who forgets socks!?!?! ME OF COURSE! What I would've given to have on a nice clean "just out of the dryer" pair of merino wool socks.

My poor dad although he seemed not affected by the cold damp night, I could tell he was wishing he had some warm socks too. Smartwool Socks makes the perfect camp site sock for me. It's called the Mountaineering Extra Heavy Mid calf, I love those socks! Bought a pair for everyone in the family for Christmas. It's called sharing the wealth! lol  Pair them up with a comfy set of long johns like the Icetex Fleece Lined thermal underwear by Indera Mills and you're good to go! Of course most of our trip was spent by the camp fire roasting marshmallows and talking, I knew we really spent most of our time there for warmth! LOL Safe to say after this camping trip I opted for a new family outing. One that would require flip flops instead of Heavy Merino Wool socks and Bikinis instead of Thermal Underwear...Ahhh my kinda trip.

Summer classic!

Tuesday, June 2, 2009 by Lillian Pagan
I found myself zoning in on a great pair of converse sneakers. Beautifully constructed of thin canvas, and a rubber sole with minimal support. Tastefully decorated to anyone's unique persona with a variety of designs, embellishments and colors. Fine clean lines yet, spunky! I LOVE EM!! Man...What I'd do to get my grubby hands on a pair of these... Mentally I'm streaming together articles of clothes waiting patiently in my closet... to be paired off with these summer classic sneakers.

Yet of course a dilemma comes to mind...What kind of socks do I wear with these?? I mean I'm sure tons of tweens, teens and hip grannies that once wore them stylishly in their hayday come across this problem.  I could throw on a pair of plain low cut cotton socks but, these wouldn't help the sweatiness that may occur. I needed socks that where thin yet supportive and comfortable. Something that wouldn't slip down into my cute sneakers or cause blisters. Ahhh of course! WrightSock Anti-blister double layer socks. How clear it became, like a crisp night with full star gazing opportunities. These comfy Wrightsock double layer socks come in a variety of styles, colors and lengths. I could even get them low cut so they would barely peek over my stylish sneakers and not interrupt my fashionista approach to mini knickers and polo tops! My favorite golf attire!

These awesome double layer socks completely offer everything I'm looking for in a sock that goes well with these kicks. They have some cushioning but not too much. They are uniquely double layered for a blister free experience. They have arch support and wick away moisture. How could I not buy these canvas lovelies now?!?! What poor excuse do I have? Too expensive? Nahhhhh, I could splurge alittle. Ahh, the heck with it! I'm getting them. . . While I'm at it I'll grab some double layer socks by Wrightsock in pink and red, for those days I feel like showing alittle sock flesh! These socks are great! The endless possibilities..They give a whole new feel to canvas sneakers that normally wouldn't allow you to wear socks with them. Imagine trying to wear a pair of thick running socks with these delicate sneakers?! I have an everlasting smile on my face the whole time I'm walking with my shopping bags, one with my new funky canvas keds and the others with my functional yet stylish double layer socks! Closet... Here I come!

Pow Chicka Wow Wowww -Old Skool Throwback

Friday, May 22, 2009 by Lillian Pagan

I've come across many different styles of socks. All sorts of running socks and walking socks etc., more than I ever imagined. So many people think the average cotton sock you may see in many stores is the only kind of sock made, the kind they wore as kids. I wish that I could meet these people face to face and guide them through the different variables and styles of todays modern times, like a sock guru.

Before working for Amazing Socks obviously, how about going way back to when I was a little girl barely 6 years old, I too thought there was very few styles of socks. Growing up I was only allowed to wear certain clothing and accessories. Not for the style really but, just cause I think my mom loved torturing me with horrible fashion sense. LOL Take for instance the infamous golf styled shoes or " saddle shoes", these paired off with bobby socks made the ultimate 70's outfit complete.

I can remember walking into Stride Rite with my tattered old pair of shoes on and given the option of either saddle shoes or Minnetonka moccasins. This gray haired old man would come with a large shoe horn and fit me wearing my old bobby socks. Now if you've ever worn moccasins or saddle shoes, you'd clearly remember NO CUSHION!!!! lol What I would've given for a nice pair of plush Smartwool socks then. HA! Socks were simple and cotton back then. Either shorties, bobby socks or long tube socks with stripes, come to think of it Wigwam Mills still makes a striped tube sock. It was a dream come true when I turned 14 yrs old, it was then I had a third shoe option...JELLY SHOES!! LOVe EM'!

Back in the day many things were so basic besides socks and shoes. EvenThermal Underwear (PJ's for me)was basic, only waffle knit cotton itchy ones that always seemed too small for me lol, Nowadays we have great thermal underwear made with soft merino or silk, even cotton has come a long way... My how times have changed...

Advise Column- Dear Sally

Thursday, May 7, 2009 by Lillian Pagan
Dear Sally,

I am a mother of 2 wonderful little girls named Emmy and Damiana, who are identical twins. My girls are just turning 6 years old and love to play dress up! They are complete fans of wearing Mommy's colorful makeup, dresses and shoes. Lately, I've noticed my daughter Emmy has been fussing a lot with her socks and not keeping them on for a full day. Maybe she's like her mother and enjoys being barefoot more than anything. However, I've noticed her toes seem to be a little red after wearing socks. I'm not sure if the redness comes from her tugging at her socks so much thus rubbing against her toes or if it's some sort of allergy/irritation. Can this be just a basic to seam irritation?? She pouts and cries every morning now when I'm getting her dressed right around the time I grab for her socks and shoes. Her sister doesn't seem to be bothered by any of it though, she's still quick to rise and fancy up for the day. My question is...well concern if you will... Now can the toe seam really be that bothersome to her or is it my daughter just being picky? If it is that irritating for her, then do you recommend any socks that eliminate this issue? Perhaps something colorful that fits her vibrant personality yet, be functional?

Signed,

Curious & Colorful Mom

Dear Curious & Colorful Mom,

Many children are sensitive to factory made, machine stitched lumpy toe seams.
Even adults grow sensitive to the constant bunching and scratchiness. Certain manufacturers make it their point to eliminate this sock nuisance so, the sock is then pleasurable to wear wash after wash. I think you should try out some seamless or soft seam socks to see how Emmy reacts. OF Course something colorful and vibrant would not only fit her personality, it can maybe give her something to look forward to during the morning routine. Many bright colors waken up the senses and act as a natural adrenaline rush. I myself like a little spunky color added to my wardrobe. Maybe try some Smartwool Socks as far as color and function go. Smartwool has this cute sock called the Amigo Nuevo. Great colors, definitely worthy of brightening up any child's day. The Saturnsphere by Smartwool Socks also works well as an option. Fox River Socks makes a cute hiker style sock called the Wick Dry Hiker Jr. This sock helps with sweaty feet and provides good cushioning although not available in many girlie colors. Thorlo Socks makes a perfect option for winter fun called the Snow OTC Ski Sock....

~ We interrupt this sock blog to bring you an important announcement-THORLO SOCKS ARE NOW BUY 3 GET ONE FREE UNTIL MAY 24TH, 2009~

Last but, not least there is a great brand that specializes in just this kind of issue- Cricket socks. This brand makes socks that are ideal for everyday use. Available in several different styles, casual or athletic and offered in a variety of colors. This brand is sure to please your newly sensitive daughter and give her a new opportunity to love socks again. I hope this information helps you out. Good Luck~

Im beat! where's the local bed and pillow?

Friday, April 17, 2009 by Lillian Pagan

Helllloooooooo Blog Readers,

The weekend is almost here... YEAHHHH!!! Can I get a WooHoo! So much planned! I'm hoping the weather is nice and it doesn't rain! Last weekend was the pits. I got caught in the rain wearing my croc clogs, doing a power walk! Arggggg! Thank goodness I was wearing my mesh pants, a hoodie and my smartwool socks. Keeping dry wasn't an issue. I love smartwool socks with my crocs or open back shoes.

I used to do alot of walking and jogging before I moved in with my boyfriend and since I moved in Ive gained a whopping 20 lbs! Yep! LOL So I decided to purchase a Pilate gym and get back into doing some cardio. I go through sneakers and socks quickly with the sweating, mud and what not. With that said Ive become a fan of merino wool socks for when I'm going to be in wet messy situations like running after a big storm. When you're knee deep in mud, its the best! I find the merino wool dry alot quicker than any other material.

For my hot, sticky days I love to wear my Fox River socks. Preferably the wick dry styles like the Wick Dry Walking Quarter. Something with padding but, lightweight... I tend to like walking socks the best when it comes to padding. Many manufacturers strategically place extra padding in the instep area to pad against laces that may be tight, so thats an added plus.
Many times I find a good pair of socks motivate me to go that extra mile.

Sensitive Sue seeks sensitive socks

PERSONAL CONNECTIONS: SF, 35-New Jersey
Single, fun loving lady seeks a good non binding time, with long term commitment and full protection. Loves long walks in the park, fully padded and blister free. Wishes to finally meet the perfect walking sock to complete her. Please write if this sounds like you. I'm open to meeting new socks.

RESPONSE TO SLW-35 NEW JERSEY:

Hi SF,

My name is Diabetic Sport. I am one of many fine Wigwam Socks to choose from. I too love long walks in the park or even a light hike. I'm always fresh and dry. I have a cushioned foot and a non binding top so, I'm always comfortable. I live an active lifestyle and would love to find a match that enjoys the same activities I do. I'm quite perfect all around If I say so myself because I can be a running sock, walking sock or even a diabetic sock. I'm super easy going with my relaxed fit leg and practically seamless toe closure. Most people that know me say I make them feel confident with my unique FreshGuard that eliminates odors, unlike other so called running socks or walking socks. My friends have a motto that Life is Movement so, with me you'll never be bored or inactive. Like some fancy double layer socks, I can wick away moisture with my Dri-release fabric and keep you blister free. So if you're looking for a fun and comfortable time then hit me up. Perhaps we can do a game of tennis or a nice jog to get acquainted??... I think we make a perfect match! Ciao!

Now, I'm sure reading this personal ad-like blog made you laugh and I'm sure to some degree everyone who reads this ad will probably say to themselves.."Yeah that sounds weird yet, catchy". . .Then I've done my job. This style just came in from Wigwam Mills and I thought Wow! Great sock and perfect for those who are looking for a non binding athletic sock that's cushioned. So Here YA Go! Enjoy!

Sock Talk Line??

Thursday, April 2, 2009 by Lillian Pagan
SOCK DOCTOR: Hi! You're on the air-liveeeeee with the sock doctorrrrr! What's your "ailment"?

CALLER: Hey Sock Doc! My name is John, I'm calling from Vermont and I got a BIG Issue!

SOCK DOCTOR: SOck it to me John...What's your Dilemmaaaaa?

CALLER: Well Doc, my girlfriend and I live together in a small country cabin up on the mountains. We've been together for 2 years now. I love her dearly but,  It seems like every time I slip into bed with her she moves away. She used to love cuddling with me but, now for some reason she shys away without mentioning a word. I know she loves the smell of fresh clean clothes so, every night I'd wear a fresh pair of thermal underwear to bed. The thermal underwear is definitely a necessity up here in Vermont! I tried to talk to her about it, I even bought her a new pair of Smartwool socks to cheer her up but, still no go.. she won't mutter a word to me.... I'm lost doc...What should I do?

SOCK DOCTOR: Well John, Let me ask you a question... What else have you noticed different about your girlfriend since this alleged "distance game" started?

CALLER: Hmmm, Well doc she used to love doing movies nights where we'd curl into bed after cranking the heat up. We had central heating but, the bills were crazy so I opted for a more cost efficient method. I now just layer up in some thermals by Indera Mills and huddle with my blanket. So, I've noticed now that she wears 2 pairs of double layer socks and drinks ALOT of tea and aspirin!

SOCK DOCTOR: John, what other heating elements do you have in your house??

CALLER: I have a fireplace...But...I never seem to remember to light it. Plus who has time???

SOCK DOCTOR: Hmmm, Well John it seems to me that your girlfriend is "colder" in all aspects or is giving you the cold shoulder for some reason.

CALLER: Yes EXACTLY!! Why do you think doc???

SOCK DOCTOR: How bout' you pull out of the Ice age John?!?! Mountaineering

CALLER: Whhaddyaaa Meannnnnnn??

SOCK DOCTOR: DAMMNIT JOHN!! ARE you that DENSE?!? ok... Here's a couple of changes I want you to make in your house. First- Light up the fire (Literally!) I'm sure your girlfriends about to freeze her chika-dee's off with no heat in the house!!! Next, buy her some more nice Smartwool socks, thick ones JOhn!! Like the Mountaineering! Since those seem to cheer her up, get her a few pairs. Oh and last question John...Do YOU wear socks to bed??

CALLER: Uhhh ..Not really..I mean the heat was always on so, I never felt a need to...Now that I think about it doc, my feet are always cold at night since I've been plugging off the heat.

SOCK DOCTOR: Well, there you go Genius!! Throw on some Freakin' merino wool socks yourself!! That might explain as to why she pulls away from you when you want to cuddle. You got cold feet and I'm not talking about being at the alter!

CALLER: Wow, Doc you're the best. I never would've thought of that...That explains alot! I'll do those changes asap!... Funny now that I think about it, she couldn't have told me my feet were cold anywho, she had surgery on her gums a week ago and can't talk while she's recovering...

SOCK DOCTOR: ~(Doc slaps herself in the forehead)~ Wow John, good luck on those changes! I'm sure that "cold front" over your house will be pushed away in no time once you get her and yourself into a warmer atmosphere ANDDDDD Thanks for calling the Sock Doctorrrrrrr! ~CLICK!~

What's in your drawer???

Thursday, March 26, 2009 by Lillian Pagan
So as I was rummaging through my lovely sock drawer filled with Smartwool socks,Fox River socks and many other fine brands...I'm thinking to myself what should my next sock blog be about?...Hmmm...Ding! There goes that little light in my fried brain! Why not write a blog about unmatched socks or thrifty ideas on what to do with those unmatched pairs!

Everybody has a drawer full of mismatched, holey, used  or stressed socks! LOL So I decided to spend some time researching and thinking of ideas on what to do with these mismatched misfits. Now working into my 3rd year here at Amazing Socks/Sock Company, I have grown an extreme love for socks. As some of you may have read past blogs of mine, I'm sure you've then caught on to my undying love for Smartwool Socks and how I now own about 80 pairs of socks in total. . . A bit of a fetish if you will lol
So idealistically merino wool socks are my favorite, which means safe to say a pet peeve of mine would be to lose one single sock from my noticeably bright colored pair of Smartwool Hiking socks.
( Yes I love socks that stand out!)

So what to do with that lonely single sock may you ask?? Why find another lonely single sock and introduce them of course! Well not really but, in a cartoon script that may jive well. lol I have come across so many crazy yet, fun ideas for any mismatched socks. So with a goal to find unique and unconventional uses for socks, I have compiled a list of a few I thought were great.

Unconventional Usage#1: Eye Makeup Remover
Yep! You read correctly! HA HA!Being that I am a huge fan of smokey eye shadows and thick eyeliner, what better way to remove day old makeup off your eyes?? I've managed to make a great pair of Thorlo socks "breakup" by ripping one sock on a zipper.( Don't ask!) So searching for a cotton ball to clean my peepers but, ending up with an empty bag in cosmetic drawer I was left with no other choice. I flipped my remaining clean Thorlo sock inside out, dabbed it in my makeup remover and wiped away! WOW! Crazy as it sounds but, the soft acrylic was gentle and perfect for my ultra sensitive eyeballs.

Unconventional Usage# 2: Foot Moisturizer
HA! No your socks don't nurture your dry cracked heels into soft moisturized tootsies but, a good lotion does! Now here's the full concept behind a great pedicure at home. First slather on a good amount of lotion, one with a scent you enjoy. Next wrap your tootsies completely in saran wrap and slip on any two misfit socks. Keep your feet wrapped for about a half hour and TAH Dah! Oh and before I forget to mention ..Please don't go walking around the house while your feet are wrapped!!Slippery is all I'm going to mention!

Unconventional Usage#3: Furniture Duster
Ahhhh! I live by this usage! Loveeee it! For this I prefer merino wool socks with thick terry looping or thick acrylic running socks. Just flip the sock inside out , slip your hand in, spray some furniture polish and get into all those nooks and crannies. Think about that one piece of furniture with the articulate wood carvings that could never be fully dust free because the average "duster on a stick" wouldn't fit. Yep....Exactly! Need I say more??

These are my socks!! There are many like them but, these are mine!!

This blog post is for all our amazing troops and their supportive families. Magnum GearBravely serving our country, stationed here in the good ol' U.S of A or overseas, I appreciate you! So, of course you're going to need some good socks to keep you comfy and dry while your face is slamming the mud during PT! I've heard the stories!! lol I have one of my cousins currently stationed in Germany and he's always in need of warm thermal underwear and socks. I remember this past Christmas I had bought him some Magnum thermal underwear that's similar to under armour and he was ecstatic! It made me feel good to know that he needed thermal underwear and that it wouldn't be a "tossed aside" waste.

Fox riverRecently, I sent him some Thorlo socks, it was their Military Combat Boot Sock. He loved it!! He says the cushioning saved his behind when he was doing a 8 hour trek lol My best friend was stationed in Iraq for 4 years and he loved the Fox River socks! His all time favorite was their wick dry maximum boot sock. For the cold days I sent him some Smartwool socks, especially their extra thick mountaineering style.Although it's not a military style, the padding was perfect for his tight laced boots. Even I am a fan of those for the snowy winters here at home. For training in the blistering hot desert sun, he would wear the Fox River PT crew socks or Thorlo physical training styles.

The Thorlo Military OTC is a great combat sock for those guys that are Thorlo Military Boot Sockrough on the feet. He shared a few with his roommates and they loved them so much that they'd email their credit card numbers so I could send them more! LOL Sillllllly Guys!! Now I'm going to have the urge to buy me some Smartwool socks or Fox River socks! Hey! I have a service charge ya know! HAHAHA! Just kidding! I mean these men had it hard in Iraq and the cushioning was ideal for those long treks in the desert. I know for a fact it was hardest for my cousin during his physical training because he was constantly getting in trouble for the other guys slip ups and not being in control as head of his group. He was stationed out in Georgia and would call me every week crying in pain with tons of blisters and sores on his feet. His legs were sore not to mention the rest of his body aches. Now this was before I sent him any great Thorlo Socks, so once he received them it was an instant relief. Poor Kid... My heart would melt but, I commend his bravery for sticking through and becoming the man he is today.

Fox River PT CrewSo to cap off this inspiring blog...Buy anyone you care for serving with the armed forces or even that special fireman or policeman in your life some Fox River socks or Thorlo Socks to give them some comfort and protection. From my experiences, they'll love em' and praise your giving ways and beneficial discovery!

Summer Sockin' happened so fast...

Good Day,

smartwool Summer is around the corner and many of us will be putting away our thick Smartwool socks, pulling out the winter wardrobe box, folding away our thermal underwear and making way for summer fun clothes! Out with the cold and in with the warm I always say lol.  So what better thing to blog about than summer socks to go with your summer wardrobe??? Many people have the misconception that wool socks for the summer is a no go. Wrong! There is nothing I enjoy more than a pair of merino wool low cuts with a tennis skirt and polo top!Merino wool is the wonder fabric for me! wrightsock

Like anyone else, come the summer time we all sweat and it's fustrating for me to have to change socks throughout the day. So I decided to try a pair of Smartwool Cheetah low cut socks. Oh My Goodness, it was amazing! By the end of the day, my feet were dry and cool! Now I don't know if your like me but, I'm a busy person...I'm talking chicken without a head kinda woman! lol So for these merino wool socks to keep my feet dry on such a scorching summer day, it was clearly a miracle. Now, some of us may be allergic to wool so, I'm going to share with you different styles of socks for the summer. Take for instance Wrightsock double layer socks, the coolmesh low is a popular style for the summer. With a unique mesh panel on top for ventilation and a perfect moisture wicking fabric combination, it's no
wonder these double layer socks are a summer favorite.

drymax socksSo as many people become more active with the nicer weather, so you'll have to find a sock that can keep up with the action lol. Some of my personal favorites for the spring and summer are as follows... Drymax running socks- super durable and great moisture wicking power! Need I say more?? These socks have been praised by runners all over the world! Plus just a recap, I will remind you of the wonderful merino wool socks that have changed my wardrobe completely. So many colors and styles to choose from you can't go wrong. Now because their are 100's of styles and fabrics to choose from I'll throw in a couple more for ya! lol. Don't want that overwhelming sense of confusion to take place so I'll steer you towards some more fav's. Fox River Ingeo

Fox River has a great sock and it's "green" and super functional for hot weather activities. I present to you the Fox River women's acceleration running ankle sock. When I first found out about this sock I says "NO WAY! Corn SOcks?!?" Yep, you read right- this unique sock is made of an Ingeo corn fiber blend and recycled polyester! So not only is this sock made for moisture wicking action and exceptional comfort, it's Earth Friendly! Last but, not least there's the Wigwam Cool-Lite Pro low cut sock. For me this is the perfect Wigwam sock for low key activities like a day at the golf range or a carnival excursion. I heart carnivals so very much and I just thought I'd throw that in lol... Perfect amount of padding, lightweight and versatile. I've got no complaints here! My advice is try a couple of different styles and see what works best for you, and please don't be afraid to wigwam cool lite prothrow in a pair of merino wool socks! The sheeps won't mind, I promise..LOL Enjoy!
