Benefits of Wearing Compression Socks for Athletes

Friday, February 3, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Compression socks are often used by people diagnosed with Diabetes to improve circulation in the lower extremities and avoid injuries. Aside from this function, these socks can also be used by athletes to help them improve their performance in their chosen sport. Here are some benefits athletes will get from compression socks.

Increased Endurance
Increased circulation in the legs and feet means there is also increased oxygen circulating the lower extremities. An increased oxygen level means a lower Lactic Acid level. A high Lactic Acid level produces pain in the legs. If an athlete experiences less pain, he or she will be able to last longer in the game or race and perform better.

When Skating, Don’t Forget your Double Layer Socks!

Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Do you play hockey or ice skate? Whether you’re doing it competitively or just for something WrightSock Anti-Blister Double Layer Walking Crew Sockfun to do on a Saturday afternoon, one of the biggest mistake skaters make is doubling up on the amount of socks they’re wearing, wearing one pair right over top of the other. This is often done for two reasons: to keep the feet warm, and make the space inside the skate as tight as possible (something every skater knows is important in their skates!) But as common as the practice is, it can also cause a lot of problems.

Wearing two pairs of socks while skating can result in things like foot mildew, rashes, and even blisters, which will keep you from skating for a while! Instead, double layer socks are a much better option. These socks are like a regular pair, but they have another layer that’s fitted right on top so you get all the warmth and fit, without any of the discomfort.

Smartwool and Wrightsock double layer socks both have this unique feature; and Wrightsocks also come with special anti-blister protection, to keep you enjoying your skate for much ice time to come.

At Amazing Socks we know just how seriously skaters take their socks. That’s why we provide Wrightsock anti-blister and Wrighstock coolmesh double layers at discounted prices that are far less than you’ll find in retail stores. Because whether your feet are twisting and turning in double axles, or they’re skating towards the puck, you need to keep them protected!

Frostbite is most likely to occur on areas of the body that are furthest away from the heart. And your feet are about as far from your heart as you can get! And don’t forget about what goes inside your boots either – you need the right socks! In this case, hiking socks such as Smartwool socks can do double duty, keeping your feet warm and wicking away moisture at the same time so it doesn’t sit on the skin.

We have everything you need to keep your feet warm and frost-bite free during the colder months. Just stop in at Amazing Socks and see how we can help!

How Thermals Work

Saturday, December 31, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
Winter is the time of the year when you take out your winter essentials to stay warm. With the countless thermals on the market today, have you ever wondered how thermals work?

Cold Pruf ThermalsThermals are often made of 2 layers of fabric. They trap cold air and use your body heat to warm the trapped air. The trapped air combins with the continued heat your body produces keeping you warm and comfortable. Other thermals also have a wicking feature. This keeps moisture and sweat away from the skin. The wicking feature also prevents body odor.

Indera Men's ThermalsThermals, like Cold Pruf Thermals, are made from natural and man-made fibers. When Merino wool and polyester fiber is combined, you get maximum warmth, comfort, dryness and odor control.

You will find different types of thermals on the market. Some people like to go for sleeveless vests while others prefer long-sleeved thermal tops and long johns. It is always a good idea to have a mix of the different types of thermal underwear for different weather temps and conditions.

Save on your thermal wear by getting them from Amazing Socks. You'll be able to buy some of the most popular brands like Cold Pruf and Indera Men's Thermals at discounted prices.

How to Wash SmartWool Socks

Saturday, December 31, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
SmartWool socks can be a dream. They can often be the only things to warm us up on a chilly day and are great for taking along on a hike or camping trip, because they dry quickly and are lightweight, despite their ability to retain heat. But, these wool socks can quickly be ruined if you wash and/or dry them improperly even once.

Point 6 Snowboard Light Cushion Over the CalfThe most important thing to know about these wool socks is that they should never be placed in a washing machine or a dryer. Wool, while being incredible durable during wear, becomes quite fragile in the rigors of the washing machine and this can cause them to quickly lose their shape. Socks from Smartwool are Merino wool socks, and as such they are a bit more durable than other types of wool. But a washing machine will still cause them to become misshapen and will also make them shrink.

You can wash wool socks by soaking them in lukewarm water with a  small amount of detergent (that you’ve spot-tested beforehand, of course.) If you’re washing a pair of kids’ Smartwool socks, or another pair that’s especially dirty, gently but firmly rub detergent in circular motions with your hands before placing under running water to rinse clean. After you’ve washed your wool socks, lay them flat to dry, but make sure that air can circulate fully around the socks to allow them to dry even more quickly and thoroughly.

When you’re looking for the best wool socks to keep you warm during even the coldest nights, visit us at Amazing Socks. We’ll give you a huge selection, and some tips on caring for those items too!

Hiker Street Crew Kids SmartWool Socks for Kids On-The-Go

Friday, December 30, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
Active kids should have proper foot gear to prevent injuries and blisters from ruining their performance. Socks provide cushioning and protect feet from friction against the insole of the shoes. When choosing the right socks, the thickness should be just right. Very thick socks can cause sweating even when idle while thin socks may not provide enough protection against blisters. They should also be flexible so that it doesn't hinder the movement of the feet.

Kids SmatWool SocksAn ideal sock for kids on-the-go is the SmartWool Kid's Hiker Street Crew Sock. The fabric is made of Merino wool and nylon mix for excellent cushioning and protection against blisters. Merino wool has finely crimpled fibers that are regarded as one of the best sheep's wool. These merino wool socks have very good temperature control because they can keep feet warm during cold weather without overheating them. They also allow good ventilation to cool the feet during hot weather. Another good feature is that they draw moisture away from the skin and repel moisture to avoid the feeling of wetness.

If you want to save money on socks and on underwear, shop today at Amazing Socks. You can get these socks at 30% off and the shipping fee waived from our store. Shop now!

What are Merino Wool Socks?

Thursday, December 29, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
There’s been a lot of buzz in the sock world lately about Merino wool socks, those socks that come from halfway around the world, and are just about the softest and warmest thing you could wrap your feet in. But just what are these socks?

Smartwool Men's Nailhead Grid Crew SockMerino wool comes from the Merino sheep, a type of sheep found in New Zealand and that’s thought to have the softest and most envied wool of any other type of sheep, When these sheep are shorn for their wool and that wool is made into socks, it becomes something that’s not only soft and warm, but that will also help protect your feet.

Smartwool Socks is one company that’s becoming extremely popular in the world of wool socks, and this is because these socks use that precious wool of the Merino sheep. And from the minute you slip them on, you’ll see (or rather feel,) why Merino wool is truly something special. But Smartwool adds their own uniqueness to these socks, and that’s the truly “smart” fabric of keratin, also found in the sock. It’s this fabric that makes these socks resistant to bacteria, keeping your feet cleaner and healthier.

But just because it comes all the way from New Zealand doesn’t mean that these socks have to cost you a fortune. At Amazing Socks, we don’t just have Smartwool sales, we discount Smartwool socks every single day. So stop by whenever you want to treat yourself, or anybody else, to the world’s finest wool!

When Hiking, Wear the Sock Right for the Job!

Monday, December 26, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
So often when people set out for a long trek in the trails they spend a great deal of time SmartWool® Men's Adventurer Crew Hiking Sockworrying about their footwear. Of course, you want to make sure that you’re wearing great shoes with proper grip and that will keep you protected from wet conditions. But you also need to worry about what’s inside the shoe – you need to think about your socks and determine if they’re the right hiking socks for the job!

Many people think that cotton socks are the best choice for hiking because they are so soft and feel so comfortable when you first slip them on your foot. Instead, wool socks such as Smartwool Hiking Socks are a much better choice. Wool socks are made of natural fibers and so they are warm and will dry naturally on their own should they become wet. And even if that happens, wool socks will still keep you warm, whereas cotton will not.

You’ll find discount Smartwool socks, as well as any other socks you need for your hike, at Amazing Socks, and at great prices too. Because we know how important it is for you to protect your feet, and we don’t think you should pay too much to do it!

Wools Socks, Yesterday and Today

Friday, December 23, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
If you think of gigantic balls of gray when you think of wool socks, you’re not alone; most people do. Those large woolly socks used to be the most popular (and in many areas, the only) SmartWool® Men's Adventurer Crew Hiking Socktype of wool sock around. And while nothing may be associated with warmth and comfort quite as much as those woolly socks, they also had their problems. The biggest one was that they were incredibly fibrous and therefore, incredibly itchy for a lot of people that wore them. Today’s wool socks though have taken care of that problem so that everyone can still enjoy that warmth – without any of the itch.

Smartwool socks are an example of today’s wool sock that is warm and will keep your feet warm and dry; while still being somewhat narrow in design and without any of those itchy fibers. How to Keep Your Child’s Feet Warm This Winter

Sunday, December 18, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
Buying winter boots for your kids can be a lot of fun, but there’s a lot more to look at than just the different styles. Winter boots are essential winter gear and need to properly fit your child and be able to properly protect their feet from the harsh winter elements. So how do you make sure that they do just that?

Kamik Toddler Snowbug 2 Insulated Waterproof Snow Boots. The size of the boot is the first and most important thing to look at when choosing a kids’ winter boot. Many parents think that they should buy a boot that’s slightly too large so that their child can grow into it. However, a boot that’s too large will only cause your child’s foot to slip and slide inside the boot, which could cause discomfort and maybe even blisters. When your child tries on a boot, feel along the toe line for their big toe; there should be about thumb’s width between the toe and the end of the boot.

Second only to size is the matter of waterproofing, and the point cannot be stressed enough. With all the snow, slush and sleet, fur and fleece lining within winter boots simply is not enough. Make sure that not just the sole of the boot is waterproof, but the sides as well, to protect against all the splashing and slopping around snow banks. Sorel boots are one of the most popular waterproof boots for kids – and they’re protected for temperatures as low as -40 degrees!

When it’s time to buy winter boots for your kids, check out our selection at Amazing Socks. While you’re there, check out SmartWool kids socks, too – the best thing to protect your child’s feet inside the boot!
