Avoid Injuries with the Right Pair of Running Socks

Tuesday, February 7, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Running, just like other activities, may stress your feet and cause injuries like calluses and blisters. Fortunately, you can reduce your chances of being injured by getting enough protection for your feet every time you go out for a run.

WrightSock CoolmeshIf you are new to running, you have to know that aside from choosing the right shoes, you also have to choose the right socks. A pair of running socks is the first layer of protection you can give to your feet. They will help reduce friction between your skin and your shoes. They will help absorb moisture when your feet start to sweat as you run. Aside from these, the right pair of socks will help alleviate uneven pressure on your feet.

One of the most popular socks for runners on the market today are the WrightSock Coolmesh socks. Their mesh-like instep allows your feet to breathe. Add to this an effective moisture control feature and your feet are sure to stay comfortable while you run. You also won't have to worry about uneven pressure because these socks fit perfectly like a glove.

Proper Dress Sock Etiquette

Saturday, February 4, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Maybe you’ve never given much thought to your dress socks before, simply pulling out whatever you saw first in your drawer and matching them with your best suit. But there is a whole etiquette involved with formal socks and while things like color and model might not matter to you, they certainly do in the etiquette world!

Gold Toe Men's 3 Pack Extended Size Cotton Fluffies CrewThe most common mistake people make when pairing their socks and dress shoes is to match the sock to the shoe and not the pant. In fact, it is your pants and socks that should match. And while you might not think there’s a huge difference between black Gold Toe dress socks and navy blue, the difference is huge (and obvious) to many. Choose socks that match the pant, not that are similar in color.

While it may be tempting to wear running socks in lieu of formal socks, this too is something that should never be done. Dress shoes are generally not made for the thicker material that athletic socks usually bring, and athletic socks are most often also white – often the worst color that you can wear with dress pants!

Many men don’t want to have to worry about dressing up, let alone worry about the socks they’re going to wear with their suit! At Amazing Socks we help you out by bringing you a huge selection of socks to pick and choose from. So you can be comfortable and proper, all at the same time!

Injinji Toe Socks – They Stand Out, and They Stand Apart!

Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
You’ll notice the difference in Injinji toe socks the first time you look at them. These socks are unique in that they have separate, individual pockets for each of your toes. Slip them on, and you might notice some other differences – the way they feel between your toes, and the way your feet look in them.  But those differences are just what set these socks apart from the crowd, and what makes them the best socks you’ll ever own.

Injinji Outdoor Nuwool Crew Toe SockIt’s those individual pockets that make Injinji the perfect walking socks, or running socks. Because your toes are all individually protected, they don’t rub together, causing less friction and not just fewer blisters – no blisters! So while you might notice these socks at first glance, it’s when you need it the most that you’ll notice them the most, and just what a difference they make.

With Injinji toe socks though, you don’t have to give up comfort and style just to keep your feet healthier. Although people are sometimes hesitant to try toe socks, once they do it’s only a matter of a few wears before they love them and think they’re the best socks they’ve ever owned. Toe socks are now so popular in fact that they come in many different styles, patterns, and fun colors!

Whether you’re wearing them for a run or for fun, come to Amazing Socks when you’re looking for the perfect toe socks, and get them at a discount too!

How to Wash SmartWool Socks

Saturday, December 31, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
SmartWool socks can be a dream. They can often be the only things to warm us up on a chilly day and are great for taking along on a hike or camping trip, because they dry quickly and are lightweight, despite their ability to retain heat. But, these wool socks can quickly be ruined if you wash and/or dry them improperly even once.

Point 6 Snowboard Light Cushion Over the CalfThe most important thing to know about these wool socks is that they should never be placed in a washing machine or a dryer. Wool, while being incredible durable during wear, becomes quite fragile in the rigors of the washing machine and this can cause them to quickly lose their shape. Socks from Smartwool are Merino wool socks, and as such they are a bit more durable than other types of wool. But a washing machine will still cause them to become misshapen and will also make them shrink.

You can wash wool socks by soaking them in lukewarm water with a  small amount of detergent (that you’ve spot-tested beforehand, of course.) If you’re washing a pair of kids’ Smartwool socks, or another pair that’s especially dirty, gently but firmly rub detergent in circular motions with your hands before placing under running water to rinse clean. After you’ve washed your wool socks, lay them flat to dry, but make sure that air can circulate fully around the socks to allow them to dry even more quickly and thoroughly.

When you’re looking for the best wool socks to keep you warm during even the coldest nights, visit us at Amazing Socks. We’ll give you a huge selection, and some tips on caring for those items too!

The Every Day Sock

Friday, December 30, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
As people continue to try and improve their own health in everything they do, and wanting to be as comfortable as possible when they do it, there’s a lot of talk about socks and which ones are best for your feet. While there are many specialized socks ranging from compression socks to double layer socks, which ones are best for every day? And which ones are best for just wearing around the house, or running a few errands?

ProFeet USPS Black Cushioned Health SockReally any sock that you find comfortable is going to be the perfect sock for every day; and you’ll still benefit from the features that come with athletic socks, even if you’re not really sweating it out while in them. But you may not need all of those features, and you should keep in mind that while nice, you may not want to pay for them all either.

Health socks can be a great option for those that are looking for an everyday sock, especially those with sensitive skin.  These socks are especially made for those that have a bad reaction to the dyes found in many fabrics. By wearing them, you’re keeping your feet protected from irritants all day long, so you won’t even have to think about your feet. Plus, these socks are made from a fabric of cotton and acrylic blend. This is ideal for when you just need a really comfortable sock because the cotton, which can’t be found in athletic socks, provides that comfort; and the acrylic allows it to still be breathable and well-ventilated.

When looking for the perfect sock, make sure you come check out our huge selection at Amazing Socks. We not only have everyday socks, but everyday discounts too!

Don’t Double Socks, Double the Layers!

Monday, December 26, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
So often when people are going ice skating, roller skating, or any other activity that’s going to be hard on their feet, they double up on their socks, putting one right on top of the other. WrightSock Non-Elastic Double Layer Xtra Wide Crew SockPeople do this because they think they’re protecting their feet but in fact, this actually hurts them.

Putting one running sock on top of another only means that there will be more room for those socks to move around, and more friction will be created. This is going to give you more blisters – along with all the other things you’re trying to avoid by doubling your socks.  In addition to that, two pairs of socks will make your feet much bigger (even if you can’t tell just by looking) and this will make your shoes too small – something that’s disastrous for feet.

Instead, use double layer socks. What’s the difference? These socks are one sock, but with layers to make it feel as though you are wearing two. The difference is that the friction then only occurs inside those layers, leaving your feet blister-free, and warm too! There are also many non-binding socks in this style so that you not only keep your feet warm but can keep circulation going too – something that’s vital when trying to stay warm!

With so many options, there’s never any reason to suffer with blisters and cold feet any more. Stop doubling up on socks and instead come to Amazing Socks and find one pair that will do the job!

Comfort
Injinji toe socks are made to follow the contours of your feet. This means, you won't have to worry about unnecessary pressure on your feet caused by socks which do not fit properly.

To Bind, or Not to Bind?

Sunday, December 18, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
Binding and non-binding socks can be a fairly confusing thing. Some socks are advertised as being binding, and that’s supposed to be good for you. Others however, tote their non-binding Smartwool Women's Unwound Non-Bind Crewproperties and they too, say that they are the healthiest kinds of socks for your feet. So which is the truth? When it comes to socks, is it to bind or not to bind?

It really depends on what you’re using your socks for. If you’re going for a long hike or a quick jog, you probably want to choose socks that don’t bind and aren’t tight, such as running socks. However, if you experience specific problems with your legs and feet, binding socks might be just the treatment you need. Diabetic socks for example, are binding at the ankle and they continually get looser as they get closer to the knee. This can be a huge help to people suffering from diabetes as it can help with blood that pools in the legs and feet. When it comes to these types of socks, the binding feature can be the best part of the sock!

There really is no answer as to whether or not you should buy binding socks or non-binding. It’s really just a matter of comfort and whether you have specific needs that would require the use of binding socks. At Amazing Socks, we have a huge variety of both kinds, so that after you decide whether “To bind, or not to bind?” you’ll know where to go, whatever the answer!

What are Compression Socks?

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
Compression socks or, support socks as they’re sometimes also known, are specialty socks Fox River Fatigue Fighter Compression Crew Socksthat are designed to help improve a person’s circulation by applying gradual pressure to the legs and the feet, parts of the body where blood is known to pool. Improving the circulation can make an immense difference for anyone who finds that they suffer from edema, phlebitis, and thrombosis; but compression socks are now being worn every day by people who are looking for just a little more comfort.

The secret of compression socks lies in the strong elastics used throughout the sock. These elastics are very tight around the ankle and gradually become looser as they move towards the knee. This forces gradual pressure on the surface of the skin, which then goes deeper to apply even more pressure on the veins, arteries, and muscles. This in turn forces the blood flow, which can often pool in the legs and feet, to start moving again and being pumped back towards the heart. It’s not only a lot more comfortable, but a lot healthier too!

Compression socks were traditionally recommended to patients who had specific circulatory disorders, or patients that were undergoing treatment for varicose veins but today they can benefit just about anyone. Athletes love them for the full-length calf support they provide while jumping, running, and twisting; and people who need to stand for long periods of the day may also find their legs and feet less tired when wearing compression socks.

To ease your pain, or just give you extra support, check out the huge variety of compression socks at Amazing Socks. And while you’re there, look at all your other support options too, such as Dr. Scholls socks and non-binding socks.
