Should You Wear Double Layer Socks While Walking?

Saturday, May 19, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Double layer socks are great for a number of sports such as serious hiking, cross-country skiing, and WrightSock Anti-Blister Double Layer Silver Stride Tab Sockanything else that requires individuals to be on their feet for a long period of time. By providing a double layer, these socks help wick moisture away from the foot but more importantly, it prevents excessive rubbing between the sock and foot; and this can help prevent painful blisters from forming. This feature, while great for athletes and hikers, has many walkers wondering whether they too should wear these socks.

It’s not just walkers actually; it’s anybody that’s on their feet for a long period of time, even those that are busy doing housework all day. And the answer to whether or not these socks are right for you is that it’s a matter of personal preference. Some say that these socks, such as the Wrightsock running socks, are the only way to prevent the friction that occurs between the sock and the foot; while others think the additional layer feels awkward and too large in their shoe.

While most find that the extra layer helps more than it hurts, it’s important that if you do find it uncomfortable you wear another type of sock, especially while walking, that will prevent blisters from forming. Smartwool socks, because they take moisture away from the skin, are great socks for that.

Whether you want to wear double layered socks, or socks made from soft Merino wool, the important thing is that you find something that will protect your feet when you’re out on a long walk and they’re going to be under a great deal of pressure and friction.

Are Sorel Boots or Hiking Shoes Better for Walking?

Thursday, May 17, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

It used to be that the only options hikers had when it came to their footwear wear heavy boots, usually Kamik Women's Brooklyn Insulated Waterproof Winter Bootsinsulated, that came up well above the ankle. They were made for the roughest terrain, and any weather; although they were still the only option for when the weather turned warmer. Today though, the options for hiking gear have come a very long way and those heavy boots have been slimmed and trimmed down, and now many types of hiking shoes can be found. These shoes offer much of the same protection and many of the same features that hiking boots such as Kamik boots and Sorel boots do, just in a more compact version.

So which one should you choose for your hike?

It will really just depend on your preference and the weather. Sturdy, strong boots should still be worn over terrain that’s difficult to cross, as they will provide more support for your feet and ankles. Hiking boots also provide much more warmth, and so should be the only choice when hiking in colder weather.

Hiking boots however, can become extremely hot in the summertime, causing the foot to perspire and become extremely uncomfortable. Also, boots are naturally heavier than shoes and this extra weight can feel especially burdensome when you’re hiking in the heat.

When you need hiking boots or shoes, come see us at Amazing Socks. We have all the footwear you need for your next hike, including Smartwool hiking socks to pair with them!

Need Help Choosing the Right Rain Boots? Choose Kamik or Sorel Boots!

Wednesday, May 2, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Rain boots have come a very long way since the time when the only color available was yellow, and your Kamik Women's Jennifer Rain Bootsonly choice really just came down to the size that you wanted. Today you can find them in just about any size, shape, color, pattern, and print and because of that, you can find rain boots just about anywhere – from going online to your local corner store. But when it comes to the rain boots you choose, it’s true that you get what you pay for, and you’re much better off choosing boots of high quality, rather than trying to pinch pennies.

High-quality rain boots, such as Kamik boots or Sorel boots, will always be the best bet in keeping your feet warm and dry during the drizzly days. While cheaper versions may have loose stitching, or stitching that breaks easily after just a few wears, the stitching on these designer boots is extra durable and guaranteed to keep your feet warm and dry for years to come.

Designer names such as Kamik and Sorel will also always be the most comfortable on your feet – something that low-quality boots can’t do. Because of the overall design of a rain boot, it’s hard to incorporate an arch and cushion support, while still keeping the rubber that typically makes the boot waterproof; this results in a boot that can be very hard on the feet. Kamik and Sorel both do a great job of incorporating the most important design elements, while keeping your feet comfortable at the same time.

When trying to choose the right rain boots, choosing only the highest quality will always be your best bet in knowing that you’ve made the right decision. And when you need the very best, come see us at Amazing Socks. We have all the rain boots you need, and Smartwool hiking socks to go with them and keep your feet extra dry!

Have Sweaty Feet? Injinji Toe Socks Could Be The Answer!

Monday, April 30, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Injinji Outdoor Nuwool Crew Toe SockThe problem of excess sweat buildup in the feet is something that’s extremely common, and something that sufferers of it can often find extremely embarrassing. It can also be something that can seem extremely hard to combat, with no amount of powders or lotions being able to do the trick. That’s often the case when trying to treat a problem that’s already started; but when you get to the root of the problem and prevent it from happening in the first place, it’s something that you may never have to live with at all. And Injinji toe socks are a great prevention tactic.

Injinji socks have separated pockets for each individual toe, so that the toes are not held together creating more heat and therefore, more sweat, than necessary. It’s the same concept as wearing mittens in the winter over gloves. Mittens are often warmer because they hold the fingers, and the heat, together. Toe socks though, separate the toes and the heat, keeping your feet cooler and sweat-free.

Injinji socks are also made mostly from wool fabric, which is best for wicking moisture away from the skin and keeping feet cool and dry. If you’re not comfortable wearing toe socks but still want to stop the problem of sweaty feet from ever occurring, Smartwool hiking socks, made from merino wool, are designed with the same concept in mind and are also excellent at preventing the problem of sweaty feet.

What often keeps people from getting the specialty socks they need to help them with their problem is that these socks can often be out of many people’s price range. At Amazing Socks though, we’re always having an Injinji and Smartwool socks sale, so make sure you check us out today!

World’s Softest Socks can Save Your Shoes!

Monday, April 30, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Have you ever owned a pair of leather or canvas shoes, such as boat shoes or patent leather shoes that World's Softest Classic Over the Calfafter several wears develop an unpleasant odor? It can be a real problem not just because you don’t like the smell, but because you know others will be able to smell it, too, especially if you take your shoes off. There are plenty of things you can do to try and deal with the odor, but only one really works.

These types of shoes trap odors very well, because the very material they’re made of isn’t decided to breathe and to release those odors. Because of this, people turn to all sorts of remedies such as insoles, odor-eating powders and lotions, even stuffing potpourri into their shoes overnight! None of these will work, but changing your socks might.

Wearing socks that are known to keep your foot well-ventilated, such as World’s Softest Socks, are the answer. The fabric in these socks takes any excess moisture that accumulates on your foot and moves them through the fabric and into the air, so it never gets a chance to stay in your shoe. These socks aren’t the only socks that will take the odor out though; Smartwool hiking socks, and other wool socks will, too.

When it comes to getting odor out of your shoe, it really has nothing to do with your shoe at all, but the socks that you wear inside of them. When it’s time for you to get the right socks to combat odors, come see us at Amazing Socks where we’re always having a Smartwool socks sale, and discounts on all of our other socks, too!

Why “Hot” Tennis Socks Might be Causing Your Feet to Burn

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Many times people experience a burning sensation in their feet, either consistently or at random intervals, Balega Socks Enduro Crew Socks and not know how to cure it. While this condition, known as burning feet, can seem like cause for concern, it’s generally not and often can be relieved simply by changing the socks you wear.

Fibers in certain socks such as running socks and tennis socks, don’t wick moisture away from the skin, and this can often cause a burning sensation in the feet. This is because the foot will become warm and fabrics such as cotton offer very little ventilation and breathing room for the feet. Perspiring will soon start and these fabrics will also leave that sweat on the skin, causing the foot to only get hotter and burn even more. Instead, wearing Wrightsock Coolmesh socks, or breathable and moisture-wicking Smartwool hiking socks are a much better choice and will keep your feet much cooler.

The same rules that apply to wearing socks when suffering from burning feet also applies to your shoes. Leather or suede shoes that have no ability to breathe will also cause your feet to burn, and mesh panels or shoes that have an opening in the toe or upper of the shoe. This will keep moisture away, your feet cool, and that burning sensation at bay.

When you need to change your socks to try and get rid of your burning feet, come see us at Amazing Socks. We have brand names like Wrightsocks, Smartwool, and more!

Winter Gloves for the Summer!

Saturday, April 21, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

In many parts of the country and the rest of the world, the ice and snow has all melted, the weather’s 180's Women's Metro Faux Suede Gloves with Tec Touchturning warmer, and the buds have started to bloom. And while along with all of that, people are also starting to bundle up their winter gear and pack away their winter gloves, there are a few that you may want to keep out and pack with your summer gear. Gloves can be useful all year round, and if you plan on taking part in certain summer activities, gloves are a must.

Motorcycle gloves are one type that can be handy during the summer months. These gloves can protect the rider’s hands from chafing, chapping, or being cut by small pieces of debris during the journey. These gloves are often designed from perforated leather, in order to keep hands both protected and cool during those long rides.

Another one of the most popular types of gloves for the summer months are golf gloves. These can be found in both summer and winter styles, for those courses that are open all year round, but still experience cooler months. Tight-fitting in order to ensure the smoothest swing and least interference, these gloves can help performance by improving your grip, and will keep your hands warm, too.

Hiking gloves can also be useful if you’re going to be traveling along rough terrain, and if you’ll also need additional grip. Climates can quickly change as well during certain hikes, such as those going up a mountain, so in this case it’s especially important to be fully prepared for cooler weather by packing other items such as warm Smartwool hiking socks and Indera Men’s Thermals.

Materials to Look for in Kids’ Socks

Saturday, March 31, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

When it comes time to cover your child’s feet, the type of material you choose might be one of the first Women's Gold Toe 3 Pr. Pack Wimbledon Sockconcerns on your mind. You want your child to be comfortable in them, you need them to stand up to what your child will put them through, and you need to make sure they don’t irritate little feet. Here’s a guide you can go by that will tell you what material will do what for your child’s feet.

Cotton can be very comfortable against the child’s foot, but it should really only be worn in comfort socks that are used for everyday use around the house. Wearing cotton in damp conditions could trap that moisture against the foot, while wearing it on long hikes or during sports could cause blisters, which will cause your child pain for days. Cotton is also known to be fairly allergen-free, which is another reason why parents like it so much.

When they are going to be out, about, and on their feet all day, kids’ Smartwool socks are usually a better option. Smartwool socks are made, as their name suggests, mostly from wool, which will dry quickly and naturally and provides great ventilation around the foot. These socks, even though they’re made from wool, also don’t irritate allergies because they’re made from Merino wool, which doesn’t bother sensitive skin.

Whatever kind of socks you’re looking for to put your little one in, come see us at Amazing Socks. We have the most popular children’s brands, and at great prices too.

What are Backpacking Socks? Think Hiking Socks!

Friday, March 16, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

Those who spend a lot of time outdoors, or a lot of time around socks, may have heard about “backpacking socks.” But what are backpacking socks? And what features do they have that make them better than other socks?

Smartwool Women's Hiking Medium CrewBackpacking socks are simply hiking socks. They’re different from regular walking socks, as they’re specifically made for when is backpacking, or on a very long hike. Because they are made for long distances, they do come with some specific features that make doing so much more comfortable, and much healthier for the feet.

Backpacking socks come with most of the same features that socks intended for hiking do. They are typically padded a little bit more in certain areas, such as the instep and the heel, to make going on those long backpacking trails even more comfortable. They also often have padding on the top of the foot, so that there is not too much pressure on the foot there, either.

Smartwool socks make great backpacking socks because they are made from wool, the only material you should consider wearing when you’re going to be walking for long distances. Wool naturally draws moisture away from the skin and it dries very quickly and very naturally, too. So your foot is never too moist for too long, which keep them free from blisters.

When you’re ready to grab your pack and hit the trail, make sure you’re wearing the right socks to do it safely and comfortably. And when you need those socks, come see us at Amazing Socks; we’ve got them all!

Tuesday, March 6, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

SmartWool Kid's Light SockLots of people love having wool socks on their feet at all times of the year because of how they keep the foot cool, as well as clean and dry. Things to Take on the Trail

Friday, March 2, 2012 by Jennifer Dean

It’s spring time again! Or at least, close to it in many different areas. For many, this means that it’s time to load up the hiking backpack and hit the trails to find the best little out-of-the-way spots. But before you head out on that hike you’ve been thinking about all winter, make sure you take a few things with you first. (Start off with a large, good-quality hiking backpack with lots of pockets and compartments to put it all in.)

Fox River Socks Merino Hiker SockAlways make sure that you have a compass and a current map of the area that you’ll be hiking in. Even if you’ve hiked it a thousand times before, there might be new roadways or areas of private property that weren’t there before, but that you still need to be aware of. Another basic necessity that you’ll need on any trail is a first aid kit. Even if you just fill it with some gauze, small scissors, bandages, and antiseptic ointment, it will help if something happens out on the trail. Of course, also make sure you pack plenty of food and snacks in case to keep you energized.

Of course you can’t forget your feet either – they’ll be working the hardest out there. You need to make sure that you have a good pair of Smartwool socks, Wrightsock double layer socks, or another pair of proper hiking socks. The last thing you need is to have to cut your hike short because your feet are too wet or full of blisters to continue.

When you need those socks for your first hike of the year, come see us at Amazing Socks. We’ll help you out with those, and anything else you might need for when you hit the trail.

Beware of Cotton and Silk in Your Hiking Socks!

Sunday, February 19, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Hiking socks come in many different materials and fabrics, and the three most common are cotton, wool, and silk. While it may seem like a good thing that you have a lot of choices, only one of these is the right one for your hike – and that’s wool.

Fox River Socks Merino Hiker SockSilk socks are often touted as being great for hiking because they have the same moisture-wicking properties that wool does. However, silk can also cause the sock to slip and slide around in your shoe. Even though socks are generally never made entirely of silk, the very presence of this fiber can make the sock move, which leads to blisters and irritation.

Cotton socks on the other hand, are often advertised as being great hiking and running socks because the material is so soft and comfortable. But softness is the least of your worries when you’re out on a hike; and cotton can be particularly bad for your feet because it has no ventilation at all. This means that sweat, heat, and odor will all build up around your foot and can also cause blisters as well as things like foot fungus.

Wool really is the best, and only, thing you should ever wear on your foot when out on a hike (or a run.) Smartwool socks are high to keep your feet and legs warm, but will also pull moisture away from your foot, helping keep it warm, dry, and more comfortable.

You can’t choose just any sock for your hike, and it can be confusing to know which material will be best and most comfortable for you. Come to Amazing Socks to find wool socks that are ready to take on any trail!

What’s the Difference between Smartwool Socks and Traditional Wool Socks?

Sunday, February 12, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Smartwool PhD Outdoor Heavy CrewHave you ever longed to put on a pair of warm cozy wool socks but as soon as you did, your feet started itching like crazy? That’s the biggest problem with traditional wool socks; it’s an allergic reaction the wool causes once it’s placed against the skin. And that’s the biggest difference with Smartwool socks. All of those allergenic fibers are removed, so you get all the benefits of wool socks, without any of the itchiness.

These socks are able to remove the most common problem with wool due to the very fabric that they are made from – a wool so fine that it can be anywhere between one-tenth and one-third the thickness of human hair. All finely woven together, there are no strands popping out or wiry pieces scratching against the skin, causing it to react and itch.

But that’s just one benefit these socks bring. Smartwool hiking socks contain stretchy Spandex fabric to keep your foot comfortable; and they still have 85% of wool, to wick away moisture and keep your feet dry, even on the longest hike. While they’re at it, these socks also contain keratin, a special protein that attacks bacteria that causes mold and mildew, and helps eliminate odor too.

People often say that the biggest problem with these socks is the price; and it’s true, they don’t often come cheap. But when you buy Smartwool socks at Amazing Socks, where everything is discounted every day, you can have all of the benefits, without the high retail cost!

Frostbite Comes Fast, But the Right Boots Can Help!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
Did you know that when you’re not wearing the proper footwear during the winter frostbite Sorel Women's Wicked Work Bootscan develop in just a matter of minutes? Frostbite is most likely to occur on areas of the body that are furthest away from the heart. And your feet are about as far from your heart as you can get! This is why proper winter boots might be the most important part of your winter gear.

Styles such as ankle boots or hiking boots are not proper boots to be wearing during the winter months, as they simply do not protect your feet enough. Unfortunately, too many people think that these types of ankle boots are perfect for cold weather, before finding out too late that they are not. When the temperature is below freezing outside, and especially if conditions are snowy and icy, you need long boots that travel at least to the mid-calf to keep out all of the harsh elements. You can even find boots, such as Sorel boots that also come lined with fleece or faux fur to keep your feet even warmer.

And don’t forget about what goes inside your boots either – you need the right socks! In this case, hiking socks such as Smartwool socks can do double duty, keeping your feet warm and wicking away moisture at the same time so it doesn’t sit on the skin.

We have everything you need to keep your feet warm and frost-bite free during the colder months. Just stop in at Amazing Socks and see how we can help!

Why You Should Invest in Great Hiking Socks

Tuesday, January 3, 2012 by Jennifer Dean
People who are interested in taking up hiking as a hobby often wonder if buying a pair of hiking socks is worth it. Here are some reasons you should consider getting the right socks for hiking.

SmartWool Hiking SocksSocks are made for different activities for a reason. Using the wrong kind of socks means putting your feet at risk for injury. Hiking is an activity that puts a lot of strain on your feet. This is the reason there are special shoes and socks for hiking. Hiking shoes and socks work together to ensure that your feet are comfortable when you go up the mountain.

A good pair of hiking socks should be able to provide enough cushion to your feet, prevent injuries and wick moisture away. Cushion is very important in this type of socks. When looking for a good pair, make sure the socks you are going to buy have extra padding on the heels. The toe seams should also be smooth to prevent uneven pressure on the the skin. Unnecessary pressure may lead to discomfort, redness and even blisters.

SmartWool hiking socks are popular among hikers. With their ultra soft material, you can be sure your feet are going to be comfortable the whole day. These socks are made from wool, nylon and spandex. Buy your socks from Amazing Socks and enjoy great savings.

How to Wash SmartWool Socks

Saturday, December 31, 2011 by Jennifer Dean
SmartWool socks can be a dream. They can often be the only things to warm us up on a chilly day and are great for taking along on a hike or camping trip, because they dry quickly and are lightweight, despite their ability to retain heat. But, these wool socks can quickly be ruined if you wash and/or dry them improperly even once.

Point 6 Snowboard Light Cushion Over the CalfThe most important thing to know about these wool socks is that they should never be placed in a washing machine or a dryer. Wool, while being incredible durable during wear, becomes quite fragile in the rigors of the washing machine and this can cause them to quickly lose their shape. Socks from Smartwool are Merino wool socks, and as such they are a bit more durable than other types of wool. But a washing machine will still cause them to become misshapen and will also make them shrink.

You can wash wool socks by soaking them in lukewarm water with a  small amount of detergent (that you’ve spot-tested beforehand, of course.) If you’re washing a pair of kids’ Smartwool socks, or another pair that’s especially dirty, gently but firmly rub detergent in circular motions with your hands before placing under running water to rinse clean. After you’ve washed your wool socks, lay them flat to dry, but make sure that air can circulate fully around the socks to allow them to dry even more quickly and thoroughly.

When you’re looking for the best wool socks to keep you warm during even the coldest nights, visit us at Amazing Socks. We’ll give you a huge selection, and some tips on caring for those items too!
